Finances

For fiscal year 2005, the Department of Education’s budget totaled nearly $500.7 million. A majority of these dollars flowed through the department to local school districts in the form of state aid or federal grants. They covered items such as Title I programs, the National School Lunch program and aid to Special Education. The department’s operational budget accounted for 4 percent of the total.
