Student Information
This section presents enrollment data and student
demographics. South Dakota’s K-12 enrollment (public and
non-public) has declined 4.3 percent since 2000. In the
public school system, enrollment has dropped or remained
steady at each grade level. The only exception was
kindergarten, which saw a 3 percent increase. Nearly
half of the state’s public school districts had student
populations between 201 and 600. The two largest – Sioux
Falls and Rapid City – accounted for 26.8 percent of
public school students.
