Finances

For fiscal year 2006, the Department of Education’s budget totaled $520 million. A majority of these dollars flowed through the department to local school districts in the form of state aid or federal grants. They funded programs such as Title I, the National School Lunch Program, and aid to special education. The fiscal year 2006 budget included a one-time appropriation to schools that needed assistance with increased heating costs.
