ACT
Assessment
A curriculum-based achievement test, the
ACT is made up of four separate exams in English,
reading, mathematics and science. Approximately 75
percent of the state’s seniors take this assessment at
some point during their high school careers. In 2005,
South Dakota students earned an average composite score
of 21.5. The ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36, with
36 being the highest possible score. The ACT is one of
two widely accepted college admission exams.
