This section presents enrollment data and student demographics. Not surprisingly, K-12 enrollment at South Dakota’s schools has decreased by 3.7 percent in the last five years. With a few exceptions, most grade levels also saw a decline in the number of students enrolled.

Nearly 32 percent of the state’s public school districts had enrollments of 200 or fewer students in 2006-07. Twenty-five percent had enrollments of more than 601 students, and 43.6% had enrollments of 201 to 600 students.
