Funding Available to Support Worksite Wellness Programs
The Department of Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Program has funds available to start or enhance worksite wellness programming. Eligible projects will be awarded up to $2,500 with 3-5 applicants being funded. This is an opportunity for your workplace to send a positive, supportive message about the importance of healthy eating, physical activity, and a tobacco-free lifestyle through environment and/or policy change. Schools are eligible to apply!

Safe Routes to Schools Applications Now Open
Public and private schools, municipalities and child safety and health advocates can apply on behalf of grades K-8 for Safe Routes to School funding from DOT. Funds can be used to:
• Facilitate the implementation of projects and activities that will improve the safety of children in the vicinity of K-8 schools
• Encourage a healthy and active lifestyle through walking and bicycling to school.

Funding Available to Support Abstinence Education (ages 9-11)
The South Dakota Department of Health, Office of Family and Community Health is soliciting proposals for the 2010 Abstinence Education Program. The target population for this education is 9-11 year olds, at least 50% of whom are Native American.
The funds for FY 2010 must be spent by September 30, 2011. Proposals must be received by April 21, 2011. To request a copy of the RFP, please call 773-3361.
