21st Century Community Learning Center Conference - June 17-18, 2013
Finding Joy in Life and Literacy is the theme of the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) Conference to be held June 17-18, 2013 at the Ramkota Conference Center in Pierre, SD.
Conference presenters include Dr. Stuart Brown, the foremost “practical champion of the knowledge of play”; award winning children’s author Denise Brennan-Nelson; Jacquie McTaggart, retired teacher and author of From the Teacher’s Desk and Carrie Brockway, elementary principal and consultant for Box Cars and One-Eyed Jacks, a consulting and publishing company specializing in games and teaching strategies.
The conference is free to all 21st CCLC directors, staff and volunteers. For all other interested individuals, the cost is $50.00 which covers meals and supplies.

Harvest of the Month Training – July 2013
Training on the Harvest of the Month
(HOM) nutrition education program will be July 9-10, 2013 in Sioux Falls, SD and July 23-24 in Rapid City, SD.
HOM is designed to promote a different fruit or vegetable each month, using a prepared 20 minute lesson/presentation. The lessons provide information about nutritional value, how and where it is grown, and how it can be prepared. The lesson is followed by students taste testing the harvest of the month item. The training also includes gardening techniques and resources.

Early Childhood Mental Health Conference – July 9-10, 2013
The Early Childhood Mental Health Conference, hosted by South Dakota Voices for Children, will be held July 9-10, 2013 at the Ramkota Hotel in Pierre, SD.
Featured speakers include Dr. Gerard Costa, Center for Autism and Early Childhood Mental Health, Montclair (NJ) State University; Dr. Gerard Jacobs, Disaster Mental Health Institute, University of South Dakota; and Dr. Robert Block, immediate past president, American Academy of Pediatrics.
The cost to attend the conference is $70 if registered by May 31, 2013 or $80 after this date. One day registration is $45. Continuing Education Units (CEU) and graduate credit are available.
