South Dakota School Wellness Policy Summit scheduled for June 6
Studies show that healthy eating and adequate physical activity improve students’ academic performance. A Wellness Policy Summit will be held June 6 in Chamberlain. Registration is required, and lunch and mileage will be paid for a team of up to three people from each district. One of the members must be an administrator or school board member. Board of Education to meet May 20 in Rapid City
The South Dakota Board of Education has a regularly scheduled meeting on the calendar for Monday, May 20, at Western Dakota Tech in Rapid City. More details, including a complete agenda, will be posted on the Board of Education website as the meeting date draws closer.


National Teacher Day is May 7
National Teacher Day is Tuesday, May 7, this year. Please make sure to thank your teachers for all the hard work they do.

2013-14 Learning Power AP Courses

Learning Power AP courses will continue to be available to school districts at no-cost, including exam fees, for the 2013-14 school year through the E-Learning center at Northern State University. Students must register through their local school district using the South Dakota Virtual School. Registration for these courses will remain open until Sept. 3.

Seven AP courses are available through Learning Power, including:
AP® Biology
AP® Calculus AB
AP® Chemistry
AP® English – Language & Composition
AP® English – Literature & Composition
AP® Physics B
AP® Statistics

Learning Power courses are year-long and are scheduled to begin on August 20, 2013. Courses will conclude on May 16, 2014. It is recommended that students have a free period in school set-aside during the day to work on Learning Power AP online courses.
