SDPB Early Learning Initiative to help prepare children for kindergarten

The South Dakota Public Broadcasting Early Learning Initiative is intended to help prepare children for kindergarten. Each week PBS is sharing activities that are aligned with the South Dakota Early Learning Guidelines. These include activities in social and emotional development, language, math, science, the arts, and health and physical development.

Early Learning newsletter: The initiative provides a newsletter that follows the South Dakota Early Learning Guidelines. It currently goes out to more than 1,000 South Dakota families and other early learning providers. Sign up

SDPB Early Learning Links: On the initiative’s website, find links to a variety of early learning topics for parents, caregivers, teachers, and therapists to access.

Early Learning News: Find information about workshops, training, and other opportunities available.

Sesame Street in Communities: Sesame Street in Communities training is available for parents, childcare providers, home schoolers and educators. Sign up to receive a toolkit and more information.

Bright by Text: Bright by Text provides free tips, information, and resources to help all parents and caregivers give every child a bright beginning.

Also find resources on the SDStepAhead website that was created by the Head Start Collaboration Office and the Department of Education. The Transition to Kindergarten section includes the new South Dakota Early Learning Guidelines and South Dakota Kindergarten Content Standards Crosswalk. It also has information about getting ready for kindergarten, including activities aligning with both the early learning guidelines and kindergarten standards.
