Using dual credit courses to enhance CTE programs

A new resource, the CTE Pathway Dual Credit Courses document, is intended to help educators and students as they consider using dual credit courses as career and technical education courses for career planning and to meet graduation requirements.

State-sponsored dual credit courses can be used to enhance approved high school CTE programs, and this new resource lists eligible state-sponsored dual credit courses, categorized by career cluster. CTE Pathway Dual Credit Courses is posted on the SDMyLife Dual Credit page under “Resources.”

Applying CTE dual credit courses to meet graduation requirements
For schools to apply any of these listed state-sponsored dual credit courses to meet graduation requirements as approved CTE, the following criteria must be met:

  • The school already has an approved CTE program (can be any of the 16 career clusters).
  • The dual credit course is offered within an approved CTE program. Your CTE regional specialist can assist you on the CTE program approval process.
  • The dual credit course is taken through a state-sponsored dual credit program.
This updated policy is listed on page 12 (Q16) of the High School Graduation Requirements Handbook.
