Seeking public input on use of ARP/ESSER funding
Under the federal American Rescue Plan (ARP), which became law in March 2021, South Dakota public schools are set to receive nearly $380 million in ARP Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds. In thinking about how to best serve students and responsibly spend these dollars, DOE is asking interested parties to provide input via a short survey.

Closing out the year: Data deadlines and Report Card timeline
With the end of this school year quickly approaching, it’s time to share deadlines for closing out your school year 2020-21 data and publishing of the 2020-21 Report Card.

Congratulations to Regional Teachers of the Year
Districts were invited to submit the names of their Teachers of the Year to the South Dakota Department of Education. Those teachers could then apply for Regional Teacher of the Year, one of whom will be named State Teacher of the Year in the fall. Congratulations to the Regional Teachers of the Year!

Hanson High School hosts career panels during SD Week of Work
During the South Dakota Week of Work, Hanson High School hosted 40 guest speakers for an afternoon of career panel discussions. Professionals from the area represented all 16 career clusters across seven groups. A total of 94 students participated.

2021 SD Workforce Education Grant recipients announced
Four South Dakota Workforce Education Grants, totaling $690,245, have been awarded to four South Dakota public school districts. In 2013, the South Dakota Legislature established the Workforce Education Fund. Part of that fund was designated to provide grants for career and technical education programs in secondary schools.

Updating the Personnel Record Form
The Personnel Record Form is open. The deadline to make any changes to this school year’s database is June 11. It is important to log into the system via http://doe.sd.gov/prf/. Click on "PRF Log-in Screen" under the "Log-in and Contact Information" heading, then select DE69PERS to enter SY 2021 staffing data.

K-12 Data Center offering educators free online training
With support from the South Dakota Department of Education, the K-12 Data Center is offering free online training for South Dakota educators that covers cyber security, Microsoft 365, and Google tools. Continuing education credit is available. Registration deadline: May 24.

Encourage math and science teachers to apply for SDMath/SDSci Leadership by May 21
Applications are open until May 21 for the 2021-22 SDMath/SDSci Leadership program. This program selects, challenges, develops, and educates South Dakota K-12 mathematics and science educators who have demonstrated an interest in leadership skills related to mathematics and science education.

Still time to sign up teachers for mentoring program
The Statewide Mentoring Program provides a first-year teacher access to a mentor teacher for a period of two years and participation in a summer academy following the first and second year of employment. Applications for the 2021-22 school year are open.
