Assess for success! Using interim assessments to identify knowledge gaps

A recent webinar series explored the South Dakota Interim Assessments associated with the state tests in English language arts and math. Recordings of these webinars are now available. Presenters included staff from schools currently using these assessments and from the Department of Education. These assessments can help educators identify students’ knowledge gaps as they return to school.

2020-21 webinar series planned for K-12 social studies teachers

The South Dakota Department of Education will facilitate a series of webinars during the 2020-21 school year for K-12 social studies teachers. Some webinars will feature national social studies education experts, like Glenn Wiebe. CEUs will be available. Collaborative chats will also be offered to continue the conversation and support learning.

SD Captiol Encourage students to be pages during 2021 legislative session

The South Dakota Legislature is accepting applications from high school students interested in serving as pages during the 2021 legislative session. Students must be juniors or seniors (seniors are given preference), must be sponsored by a legislator and be in good academic standing (3.0 GPA or higher is encouraged).

BOR approves Child and Adult Advocacy Studies certificate

The South Dakota Board of Regents has approved the Child and Adult Advocacy Studies (CAASt) certificate. Those earning the graduate-level certificate will gain competency in the various factors that lead to child and adult maltreatment and will be better equipped to advocate for children and adults who have experienced trauma.
