South Dakota Week of Work scheduled for April 19-23

The South Dakota Week of Work will be held April 19-23. A week of activities will be hosted on a virtual platform. This special week will introduce 10th and 11th graders to career opportunities in their communities and across the state.

It’s a week of exploration and celebration, with the aim of guiding students, engaging businesses, and introducing employers to their future workforce. Sessions will highlight career clusters, along with panel discussions and other opportunities for students to interact with business and industry.

There will also be short videos offering tours and “day in the life” perspectives to give students high-level introductions to various career fields.

All content will be recorded so that students and teachers can access it later, if live sessions do not work with their schedules.

Resources will also be available to help educators guide activities to get students excited about exploring careers in our state during that week.

Additionally, if districts are offering work-based learning and want to arrange job shadows for that week, there will be resources available for businesses with tips on hosting students.

Although the statewide matching system that had been planned for spring 2020 will not be offered this year, the week will be promoted to industry, so businesses that are able may still offer opportunities for students.

Plans for the week also include opportunities for districts to celebrate and reflect on how they have been able to prepare their students for next steps, even in the midst of a pandemic.

Keep checking the South Dakota Week of Work website for more details to come.
