SD Week of Work to engage students in career exploration

Governor Kristi Noem has announced details of the first-ever South Dakota Week of Work, April 20-24, 2020. The purpose is to connect 10th grade students with area businesses to: 1) provide students with opportunities to explore potential jobs here in South Dakota, and 2) provide employers with opportunities to engage with youth and develop connections with the state’s future workforce.

Throughout the fall, businesses will be recruited and asked to indicate their interest in participating in the Week of Work matching system. In the spring, schools will register participating 10th grade students via this same matching system. The department is hosting face-to-face workshops Oct. 9 in Sioux Falls and Rapid City for high school principals and counselors to learn more. The department will also host webinars in November if in-person is not an option.
