Students Against Destructive Decisions - March 23-24, 2012

The Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Conference will be held in Chamberlain at the Cedar Shores Resort on March 23-24, 2012. Students in grades 7-12 with their advisors are encouraged to attend. The conference is free and school teams will be provided a stipend to cover travel costs and/or costs to implement programming within local school/communities. 2012 Spring Tobacco Prevention Institute- March 28-29, 2012

The South Dakota Tobacco Control Program will be hosting the 2012 Spring Tobacco Prevention Institute on March 28-29, 2012 at the Ramkota in Pierre, SD. Scholarship assistance will be available on a first come, first serve basis to cover the cost of attending this training, including reimbursement for substitute teachers. Key topics include "Best Practices" in Tobacco Control Coalition Building, Community and Youth Engagement, and Advocacy for Tobacco Free Schools. For more information click here.

SPARKS Physical Education Training - May 29-30, 2012

South Dakota physical education teachers are invited to the SPARK Physical Education Workshop(s) being sponsored by Coordinated School Health and Education Service Agency (ESA) 3. The FREE workshops are being offered for the elementary school level and the middle school level. Each one day workshop is designed to provide attendees with a working knowledge of SPARK’s unique content and instructional strategies. Participants may attend one or both days of the workshop. Each participant will receive SPARK curriculum materials to include a teacher manual, music CD and SPARK folio. Teachers will leave ready to “SPARK-up” their students for a lifetime of good health! LifeSkills Training

The LifeSkills training that was to be held on February 29-March 1, 2012 in Chamberlain, SD was canceled due to inclement weather. The rescheduled date for this training is March 27-28, 2012 at the AmericInn in Chamberlain. A LifeSkills training will be conducted in Watertown on May 30-31, 2012 and in Spearfish on August 15-16, 2012. LifeSkills is a proven, highly effective, substance abuse prevention program. This comprehensive program provides adolescents and young teens with the confidence and skills necessary to resist social pressures to smoke tobacco, to drink, and to use drugs.
