South Dakota Benchmark Assessment (SDBA)
The South Dakota Department of Education has invited school districts across the state to participate in a new Benchmark Assessment Pilot Project for grades 3-8 and 11 in reading and mathematics. The pilot will run during the 2012-13 school year.
The purpose of this assessment is to gain practical experience, at the school, district, and state levels, related to three critical areas:
1) Delivering benchmark assessments
2) Delivering assessments online
3) Assessing mastery of the Common Core standards
There will be four different testing windows throughout the school year. The Pre-test will be administered Sept 4-14; First interim is Dec 3-14, Second interim is March 4-15; Posttest is May 6-17. We believe that each test (reading and math) should take students about one hour to complete. There will be 32 reading items and 40 math items for each grade. The portal for this benchmark assessment will be housed in the South Dakota Assessment Portal (SDAP). At the end of the each test, your staff will be able to view their student’s results in SDAP (Data Interaction).
