Moore named interim director of Indian education for the state

Keith Moore of Sioux Falls has been named the interim director of Indian education for the South Dakota Department of Education.

Moore has spent the majority of his career in the education field. From 2010 to 2012, Moore was the director of the federal Bureau of Indian Education, which oversees all federally operated BIE schools across the country. Prior to that, he served as chief diversity officer at the University of South Dakota, and from 2005 to 2009 as South Dakota’s director of Indian education.

"Keith understands the issues surrounding the education of our Native American youth," said Dr. Melody Schopp, Secretary of the South Dakota Department of Education. "His expertise will be especially critical as we seek to close the achievement gap for our Native students."

Moore is a member of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe. He is currently the director of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in South Dakota. Moore holds a master's degree in secondary administration from South Dakota State University and a specialist degree in educational leadership from Montana State University.
