SDSL Supports and Empowers SD Education Through Its Programming
School library programs use a variety of resources for instruction and provide programs and activities that link literacy and students' interests. Many school library programs across South Dakota provide digital access to educational resources to support students' learning.
South Dakota State Library (SDSL) partners with school libraries to guide and support their programs through the following methods:
- Guides and Resources
- Monthly Newsletters
- School Library Pulse Mini-Series
- School Library Scoop
- School Library Standards
- Pillars for Effective School Libraries
- School Achievement
- Grant Funding
- Electronic Resources
- And more!
School library programming is versatile and can be incorporated beyond the library through classroom instruction to further enhance learning for students.
The SDSL proudly serves as a depository for state agency publications dating back to territorial days. Through its growing Digital Collections, the State Library offers the public online access to government reports, codified laws, legislative documents, and other invaluable resources. Each item is carefully digitized using high quality scanning equipment, image enhancement, and OCR technology, resulting in searchable PDFs that help librarians, educators, researchers, genealogists, and community members explore South Dakota’s story. Explore the resource today – you just might find something to include in your lesson plan!
The team’s current project is a collaboration with South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks to digitize past issues of Conservation Digest.
