Summit and Road Trip registrations will re-open from May 1-10

Teachers interested in attending the Civics & History Summit or the South Dakota Road Trip: Teachers Discovering History have until May 10 to sign up. This will be the final registration window.

The Civics & History Summit is a free, two-day event held June 3-4 at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. The summit will feature breakout sessions designed to align with educators’ curriculum needs, a dinner with a performance by the American Historical Theatre, and more. Educators who are directly responsible for creating curriculum around and implementing the South Dakota Social Studies standards will receive a $300-stipend for full conference participation. Full conference participants will also receive 15 continuing education contact hours or one graduate credit at a reduced rate.

The South Dakota Road Trip: Teachers Discovering History will run from July 15-18, and will feature three road trip routes in South Dakota: Central, Eastern, and Western. K-12 educators who attend will explore the rich and diverse history of South Dakota as they visit key locations that play a significant role in the state’s history. At each stop, they will learn about the lives of those who shaped South Dakota’s past and continue to impact its present.

The Western Route option is currently full, but there are some seats available on the Central and Eastern Routes. Participants will receive free access to all attractions, educational opportunities and evening events; lodging and transportation to and from all attractions is also provided free of charge. South Dakota educators who participate in the full trip will receive a $500 stipend; they will also receive 45 continuing education contact hours or three graduate credits at a reduced rate.
