PREPaRE School Safety and Crisis Preparedness
May 27-29, Vermillion - The South Dakota School Crisis Prevention & Response Hub is providing the school safety and crisis preparedness training, PREPaRE, at no cost to schools. This training supports school staff to improve and strengthen their school safety, crisis management, and emergency response plans. PREPaRE consists of two separate workshops, which may be taken separately, and there is no prerequisite that one be taken before the other. GMS Work Sessions (Public Schools Only)

Join us in Pierre to complete the annual Consolidated Application, which is an important task; to help you, the Office of Title Programs will host Grants Management System (GMS) work sessions in Pierre. These face-to-face, come-and-go work sessions will be dedicated time for districts to work on their 2026-27 Consolidated Application. Contact Tami Kaaz with questions.

Foundational Reading Courses
This summer, educators in all roles can join in person foundational literacy courses grounded in the Science of Reading. Sessions cover the five essential literacy skills, strategies for supporting students with reading challenges, explicit instruction, and more. Registration for all courses is open on the DOE’s PD platform.

  • K-3 Foundational Reading
    June 1-3 - Sioux Falls; June 8-10 - Pierre; July 7-9- Rapid City. A three-day workshop where participants will learn research-based literacy practices and Science of Reading strategies to strengthen instruction and support all learners, including those with reading challenges.
  • 4-8 Foundational Reading
    June 24-26 - Sioux Falls; July 7-9- Rapid City; July 27-29 – Pierre. A three-day workshop designed to build stronger readers and writers with strategies for fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and academic language. Participants learn to use assessments, teach multi-syllabic words, and support both struggling and advanced learners.
  • Train the Reading Facilitator
    July 20-24 - Sioux Falls. A five-day training designed to designed for participants to gain facilitation tools and evidence-based strategies for teaching foundational skills to support effective professional development.
  • Explicit Instruction
    June 25-26 - Sioux Falls; July 30-31 – Pierre - A two-day workshop on explicit instruction techniques from Anita Archer and Charles Hughes’ work. Engage in active learning through sample lessons and discussions, led by instructors trained directly by Anita Archer.


Regional K-12 Science Trainings
Join us for a full day regional science training designed to help K–12 teachers understand the South Dakota Science Standards and align their current curriculum with confidence. Hands-on work time and practical tools will help you strengthen inquiry, rigor, and real-world science learning. Contact Hayley Miller with any questions.

New to Infinite Campus Training
Aug. 4, Pierre - The New to Infinite Campus training is specifically for district personnel who are fairly new to using the Infinite Campus product and whose responsibilities within the school system include items such as Infinite Campus User Security and Tool Rights Setup, School Calendar Setup, Course Setup, Student Enrollment, Student Attendance, Student Behavior, System Administration, Free and Reduced Account Management, Gradebook, and Report Cards.
