South Dakota launches TeachinSD website
The Department of Education (DOE) has created a website designed to help schools find talented staff, and educators find a career in South Dakota that works for them. It’s called TeachinSD.com, and it’s part of DOE's broader efforts to address teacher shortages in the state.
Data from the Associated School Boards of South Dakota shows that there were about 250 open teaching positions in the state, as of the end of July 2023. South Dakota is not unique in its teacher shortage – states throughout the country are reporting difficulty hiring.
"Addressing the ongoing teacher shortage is a number-one priority for us," said Secretary of Education Joseph Graves. "The new employment website is one of several steps we’re taking at the state level to come at this challenge from different angles."
The website is free for schools and job seekers. It encompasses both certified and classified positions with a school district. Job seekers can search for openings based on region or category. If candidates select "Region," they can choose one of six areas of the state. If they select “Category,” the job postings are organized according to type of job the candidate is seeking. They also can upload a resume into the site and send it to schools with opportunities they are interested in.
Establishment of the website is a part of a larger marketing campaign described in this issue's lead story: Campaign celebrates, elevates teaching profession.
