South Dakota History Hub launched
A new Department of Education-sponsored website has launched. Its purpose is to provide educators access to a variety of South Dakota social studies resources. The South Dakota History Hub helps teachers in building their own knowledge and in teaching students about South Dakota’s history, government, geography, and economy.
The History Hub repository features resource documents, ebooks, web pages, audio clips, and videos that support South Dakota Social Studies Standards. It also includes links to the South Dakota State Library, the State Historical Society, and the Office of Indian Education to allow individuals to access materials contained within their websites.
Each History Hub resource includes a short description, corresponding South Dakota Social Studies Standard(s) and grade level(s), whether the resource spirals into other grade level standards, and a unique QR code for use with compatible devices.
The History Hub allows users to browse site content without an account, or to create an account to activate their My Learning Library. The My Learning Library function will allow users to “favorite” a resource and add it to their personal learning library. The user is able to create and organize folders within their My Learning Library for future use.
Although the site is geared towards teachers, any member of the public can access the materials. Parents, guardians, students, educators, and members of the public can access the site and create a learning library if they wish.
The hub repository currently contains over 100 resources, with that number continuing to expand. Users are encouraged to submit resource requests to assist the department in the curation of new materials to support teachers and students in the teaching and learning of South Dakota’s history, government, geography, and economy.
All resources on the history hub can be used free of charge.
