Three South Dakota Schools designated Blue Ribbon Schools by U.S. DOE
The U.S. Department of Education has recognized 353 U.S. schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2023. The recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student groups on assessments.
“The honorees for our 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Award have set a national example for what it means to raise the bar in education,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
The three schools in South Dakota that earned the award are Bridgewater-Emery Elementary School, Castlewood High School, and Fred Assam Elementary School (Brandon Valley). Principals from each of the schools cited an outstanding teaching staff as key to success in receiving the award. They also said that supportive communities of the students that they serve create students who are invested in their own community and education.
