Capital Connections Registration

The South Dakota Department of Education will be hosting a two-day event that offers educators a front-row seat to the policymaking process.

"Capital Connections: A Legislative Experience for Social Studies Educators" will take place Feb. 5-6, 2026, in Pierre, during South Dakota’s legislative session. This immersive experience provides an opportunity for secondary social studies teachers to engage directly with lawmakers, policy advisors, and other key figures who shape our state’s laws.

Participants will gain valuable insights into how government functions at the state (and to some extent, local) level, deepening their content knowledge and enriching their classroom instruction.

Registration will be held Dec. 1- 19, with registration capped at 50 participants. Participants will receive complimentary lodging accommodations and meals throughout the professional development opportunity.
