Content Standards: Under Review

Academic content standards provide a road map for what students should know and be able to do by the end of each grade. South Dakota's content standards are reviewed regularly, as required by state law.

Persons interested in providing feedback on the proposed content standards have several options to do so. Written public comment may be provided online by following the links below. Written comment may also be mailed to the Department of Education, ATTN: Public Comment, 800 Governors Drive, Pierre, SD 57501. Individuals may provide testimony by appearing in-person or remotely at one of the four public hearings.

Registration is open for the February 10, 2025 hearing. Persons may register at: https://forms.gle/cSQSnpbGGrrdDgKN8. Registration and public comment must reach the Department no later than 9:00 a.m. CT, February 5, 2025, to be considered for this hearing.

Testimony will be limited to 4 minutes per speaker, up to 30 minutes for proponents and up to 30 minutes for opponent testimony, beginning with registered testifiers. If time allows, testimony may be taken from non-registered speakers. For questions or issues with registration, please contact Kristin Berger at kristin.berger@state.sd.us or 605-773-5669.
