CTE For Content Credit
South Dakota schools may offer students the opportunity to earn academic credit by completing approved career and technical education courses that address the pertinent standards within the curriculum. Approval to offer credit must be obtained through an application process with the Department of Education. Teacher applications can be submitted at any time. Suggestions for new courses must be submitted by December 1 for the following school year.

The CTE for Core Content application should be completed if your district plans to offer a CTE course as a core content elective in your district, if you need to make changes to a currently approved CTE for Core Content application, or if you are suggesting a new CTE course be offered as a core content elective.
- Applications must be submitted by December 1 for the following school year.
Note: If application does not meet expectations, it will be sent back to district for revisions. Applications can take 6-8 weeks to finalize after first submission. - Small committee will review and score the application.
The committee will consist of:- State CTE specialist
- State core content specialist(s)
- At least one more core content teacher in the field
- Team Leader and Director review and sign off on the application, approving the application.
- An approval letter will be sent to the district. The course is approved for five years. District s application must be finalized by December 1 to implement in the following school year.
