Literacy Blueprint courses
The South Dakota Department of Education is partnering with the state's public universities to collaboratively design comprehensive foundational literacy courses rooted in the Science of Reading. These "Literacy Blueprint" courses aim to equip South Dakota educators with the crucial knowledge and skills needed for effective reading instruction. They are expected to be available in the 2025-26 school year.
Serving as a key component in fostering reading proficiency, the courses will ensure that educators are well-prepared to support literacy development in young learners. Through the application of research, innovative teaching methods, and a commitment to educational excellence, this curriculum will empower teachers to unlock every child's reading potential, contributing to their long-term academic and personal success.
The following courses will be created:
- Primary Elementary Literacy
- Early Childhood Literacy
- Middle Level Literacy
- High School Literacy
- Primary Writing
- Literacy for Specialized Subjects and Paraprofessional
- Literacy for Administrators
