South Dakota Capitol Building

Are you passionate about civics and government? Do you find excitement in the political process? If you answered yes to any of these questions, have we got an event for you! The Department of Education is hosting a two-day professional development for middle and high school civics and government teachers. Called "Capital Connections: A Legislative Experience for social studies educators," it will take place Feb. 3-4 in Pierre, during the heart of the state's legislation session.

Attendees will have opportunities to see state government in action, learn more about how state and local government work, and better understand how elected and appointed officials represent the voices of South Dakotans.

These experiences will enhance educators' civic knowledge and equip them with real-world examples to bring back to their classrooms.
