Capital Connections: A Legislative Experience for Social Studies Educators
Are you passionate about civics and government? Do you find excitement in the political process? If you answered yes to any of these questions, have we got an event for you! The Department of Education is hosting a two-day professional development for middle and high school civics and government teachers. Called "Capital Connections: A Legislative Experience for social studies educators," it will take place Feb. 3-4 in Pierre, during the heart of the state's legislation session.
Attendees will have opportunities to see state government in action, learn more about how state and local government work, and better understand how elected and appointed officials represent the voices of South Dakotans.
These experiences will enhance educators' civic knowledge and equip them with real-world examples to bring back to their classrooms.
Registration begins Nov. 1, 2024.
Registration Includes:
- $300 stipend to full event participants who are directly responsible for creating curriculum around, and implementation of, the South Dakota social studies standards
- Complimentary lodging and meals
Eligible to Attend:
The following are eligible to attend Capital Connections: Individuals who are certified teachers or homeschool teachers responsible for implementing the South Dakota social studies standards. This applies to accredited public, private, tribal/Bureau of Indian Education schools, and homeschools in South Dakota.
