ExCITE! Reboot Library Methods Course: Civic & Ethical Literacy
Join the South Dakota State Library for an online course focusing on the third strand of the SD School Library Standards: Civic and Ethical Literacy. In this course, we’ll focus on topics related to the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living and learning in an interconnected world. This is a professional development opportunity for librarians, teachers, specialists, para-professionals, administrators, and coordinators.
The course is free for those taking it for Continuing Education Contact Hours (30 CECHs available for the course) or $90 for 2 graduate or undergraduate credits through the University of Sioux Falls. Register online.

Improving Parent Involvement in the IEP Process Webinar
- Feb. 2, 9-10 a.m. (CT), online
The Office of Special Education Programs invites SPED directors and SPED teachers to join a one-hour webinar about improving parent involvement in the IEP process. The webinar will address methods for fostering positive relationships with parents, including how to increase communication, develop partnerships, and distribute SPED information and resources to parents. Ideas for increasing district response rates for the 2023-24 SD Parent Involvement Survey will also be shared. Register on Canvas Catalog. AIM Pathways opens in February
Teachers interested in taking courses in the Science of Reading have an opportunity to register for the free courses, as the registration window for AIM Pathways will be open from Feb. 1 to May 31.
Courses offered through AIM Pathways include the following:
- Pathways to Proficient Reading
- Pathways to Proficient Writing
- Pathways to Literacy Leadership
- Early Childhood Bundle
- Steps to Literacy II
These courses are largely asynchronous - they can be taken at times convenient to the learner. The AIM Pathways courses are a part of the Statewide Literacy Initiative. Teachers are eligible to take the courses for free; upon completion, they will be able to receive Continuing Education Contact Hours or credits to apply to recertification.
