Core Content Connectors: Grade-level content for all students’ achievement levels
Sept. 23, Sioux Falls
The Core Content Connectors (CCCs) are South Dakota’s alternate academic achievement standards for students with significant cognitive disabilities. South Dakota professionals who serve students with significant cognitive disabilities are encouraged to attend this workshop in Sioux Falls.
At this FREE four-hour workshop led by two South Dakota special education teachers, both general and special education professionals will learn how to provide alternate instruction to students at their individualized achievement levels. Guidance will be given on how to use the CCCs in annual goals, alternate grading and report cards, and alternate assessment.

Community Response to Child Abuse Conference
Oct. 3-4, Sioux Falls
The Center for the Prevention of Child Maltreatment (CPCM) is working to reduce all forms of child maltreatment in South Dakota. On Oct. 3-4, more than 500 professionals from across the state will gather at the Sioux Falls Convention Center to learn from national and local experts, enhancing understanding and response to child abuse.
This year’s conference features a keynote from Warren Binford, an international children's rights scholar and advocate whose work focuses on child exploitation online and tech-facilitated child abuse. Binford will provide an overview of the latest research on how digital experiences are changing children’s lives in the 21st century. SDSL Book Study: The Joy of Reading
Oct. 28 – Nov. 24, Virtual
Join the South Dakota State Library for an inspiring book study designed for school librarians (and open to all librarians and other educators), focusing on Donalyn Miller’s “The Joy of Reading.” In this four-week course, we’ll explore practical strategies to rekindle the love of reading in students, build a vibrant reading community, and engage even the most reluctant readers. Earn 15 continuing education contact hours upon successful completion of the book study. You will need to acquire your own book: “The Joy of Reading” by Donalyn Miller and Teri S. Lesesne (2022 Heinemann).

South Dakota Indian Education Summit
Nov. 14-15, Pierre
The South Dakota Office of Indian Education hosts an annual Indian Education Summit for educators and students to develop their understandings and experiences. The summit offers an opportunity for educators to learn about different initiatives, strategies, and networks that are available to assist them in incorporating South Dakota history within their classrooms, schools, and communities. The 2024 summit will be held Nov. 14 at the Ramkota Hotel and Conference Center in Pierre. Youth Day will be held the following day, Nov. 15, also in Pierre. Library Methods On-Demand: School Library 101

This online course focuses on the unique aspects of school librarianship and what it takes to create an impactful school library. Topics include implementing policy and procedure, managing behaviors, practicing the power of the pause, advocating for the school library, and more. This is a professional opportunity for anyone who works in a school library or who would like to work in a school library.
