Educators asked to weigh in on proposed standards

Standards for Computer Science, English Language Arts, and Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings are now available for public input.

The Board of Education Standards will meet Thursday, Dec. 19, at 9 a.m. in Sioux Falls. As part of its agenda, the board will hold public hearings on proposed standards in K-8 Computer Science, English Language Arts, and Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings & Standards. These hearings are designed to get input from educators and other interested South Dakotans on the proposed standards.

The proposed standards can be found on the DOE's Content Standards Under Review webpage. This is the second of four hearings; two other public hearings will be held in Pierre and Rapid City in 2025. To provide testimony at the December hearing, please register in advance via the board's website.

In addition to providing testimony during a standards hearing, interested parties also may submit written public comment. To provide written public comment, follow the appropriate links from the Content Standards Under Review webpage.
