Literacy Framework: Family Engagement Guide
Jan. 15 – April 15, 2024 Virtual
This course will examine the topic of family engagement aligned to literacy and how teacher partnerships can enhance family understanding of literacy from varying levels of elementary and secondary needs. Particular emphasis will be placed on the factors that impact outcomes of students and families of varying backgrounds as they develop an understanding of the South Dakota’s literacy model.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge and engagement of family engagement aligned to literacy.
- Understand the benefits of connecting family, community, and schools.
- Understand specific elements of partnership programming that can improve student learning through family engagement through the lens of literacy.
This course has been developed into five modules.
The class begins Jan. 15, 2024, and all course work must be completed by April 15, 2024. Participants have the option to purchase one graduate credit at $40, or receive 15 Continuing Education Contact Hours. Enroll via our PD platform.

ExCITE! Reboot Library Methods: Civic & Ethical Literacy
Jan. 29 – Feb. 29, 2024 Virtual
The South Dakota State Library is offering its annual ExCITE! Reboot Library Methods Course for librarians, teachers, specialists, paraprofessionals, and other education professionals. This February's online course focuses on the third strand of the School Library Standards, Civic and Ethical Literacy, in which we will cover topics related to the rights, responsibilities, and opportunities of living and learning in an interconnected world. Agents of Change: 2024 Special Education Conference

The annual Special Education Conference provides an opportunity for South Dakota educators, related service providers, and parents to gather and discuss evidence-based innovations, educational trends leading towards best practices, and practical solutions for special education classrooms.

MTSS Summer Education Conference
June 25-26, 2024 Oacoma, South Dakota
Save the date: The 2024 Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) Summer Education Conference has been scheduled for June 25-26 at Arrowwood Cedar Shores in Oacoma, S.D.
The conference will feature presentations from Dr. Heidi Beverine-Curry, who will discuss adolescent literacy instruction and intervention, and Terry Scott, who will present “Classroom Management: Addressing Escalating Behavior.”
This conference is designed for K-12 school staff and administrators. Registration will be coming soon on sded.sd.gov.
